Cents Ability is proud to announce that Kristine Rivera has joined the organization as its new Executive Director effective February 1st, 2010. As Cents Ability’s first full-time Executive Director, Ms. Rivera will help develop and augment Cents Ability’s commitment to New York’s teens and volunteers by promoting financial literacy during an exciting time of growth for the
organization.

Ms. Rivera said, “I am delighted to join such a great organization which addresses a critical need at an integral time for both Cents Ability and the global financial literacy movement. I look forward to leveraging my New York City non-profit experience to advance Cents Ability’s mission, teaching teens the fundamentals of finance.”
Ms. Rivera’s objectives will center on increasing the organization’s visibility at schools and in the community, fortifying volunteer engagement, program development and cultivating corporate partnerships and financial support.
Previously, Ms. Rivera served as the Director of Comp2Kids at Per Scholas for three years. She has over 12 years of education and nonprofit leadership experience, demonstrating her commitment to the education of urban youth. She is currently a graduate student at the City University of New York, Baruch College in the Masters of Science in Education Supervision and
Administration program.
As a National Urban Fellow, Ms. Rivera earned her Masters in Public Administration and served as the Interim Acting Executive Director of an early childhood education center. Prior to pursuing her graduate degree, Ms. Rivera was the Senior Associate Director of Education at the Harlem Educational Activities Fund, Inc. A student of New York City’s public school system and a Bronx resident, Ms. Rivera was awarded her Bachelors of Arts from Colgate University with a double concentration in Philosophy and Latin American Studies.
Cents Ability is grateful to Société Générale and the kasina Youth Foundation, whose dedicated involvement and sponsorships made a full-time Executive Director possible.
Cents Ability, Inc. (www.cents-ability.org) partners with schools and community centers throughout New York City to conduct free financial literacy workshops for high school students. Its curriculum is taught in seven 45-minute sessions over three to seven weeks. Cents Ability’s teachers are professionals in fields such as finance, media, education and law or college students pursuing business majors. These volunteers bring real world experience to the classroom while serving as role models to their
students.
